Effect of different substratum on treated sunflower seed germination

Abstract: Results of the examination of Rimi hybrid seed showed the existence of a highly significant effect of different substratum on germination energy and germination. Also, a highly significant influence was detected between treatments, while the substratum x treatments interaction was significant. On average, germination energy was the highest on filter paper and it was 90.10%. Also, the germination was the best on filter paper (92.05%). This value was statistically significantly higher (by 13.60%) with respect to germination determined in sand and by 4.00% concerning germination determined in compost.
Salt tolerance of corn genotypes (Zea mays L.) during germination and later growth

Abstract: Since corn is grown in climatically diverse regions and under different production conditions, assuming that high salinity in the substrate affect corn seed performance, such conditions were simulated in this study in order to examine their effects on seedling geminability and length in several corn genotypes. The study showed that the tested seeds tolerated the stress conditions up to a certain point. The studied genotypes differed in level of resistance to the stress conditions. Salt concentrations were determined, which were capable of affecting negatively seed germinability and seedling growth.

Correlation between heterosis and genetic distance based on SSR markers in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between SSR based genetic distance (GD) of new NS sunflower inbred lines and heterosis for six agronomic traits. Twenty three sunflower inbred lines (20 restorer lines and three female lines used as testers) and their hybrids were examined for plant height, head diameter, thousand seed mass, oil content, seed yield per plant and oil yield per plant. Significant heterosis was observed in hybrid combinations for all examined traits except oil content. Genetic distance between pairs of tested sunflower inbred lines ranged from 0.13 to 0.8. There was no significant positive correlation between genetic distance and mid- and better-parent heterosis, specific combining ability and mean value in any of the examined traits for all 60 hybrids. A highly significant negative correlation was found between GD and mean oil percentage (r=-0.33 p<0.01). Although GD was generally a poor predictor of heterosis, better results are obtained if hybrid combinations for each tester and each trait are analyzed separately.

Abstract: Sa？etak This work presents a petrographic and geochemical analysis of artifacts from grave 2 excavated in the Mesolithic layers of Vela spila. The rock from which it is composed is magmatic in origin, which means that it is not originally from Kor？ula, so that the selection has been narrowed to only a few Adriatic volcanic islets. The results of comparative analysis of the artifacts from Vela spila and samples of similar rocks from Palagru？a, Brusnik, Jabuka and Komi？a largely indicate that Paragru？a is the site from which the round gabbro-diorite stone was brought to Kor？ula. This data is the oldest confirmation of navigation on the Adriatic Sea and indicates that the Gargano-Palagru？a-Kor？ula route was vital for procuring raw materials, and probably as an avenue for the spread of the Mesolithic (and even earlier) populations

Abstract: Sa？etak U ovom se radu predstavlja petrografska i geokemijska analiza artefakta iz groba 2 otkopanoga u mezoliti？kim naslagama Vele spile. Stijena od koje je sastavljen magmatskog je porijekla, ？to zna？i da ne potje？e s Kor？ule, a izbor lokacija su？en je na samo nekoliko jadranskih vulkanskih oto？i？a. Rezultat komparativne analize artefakta iz Vele spile i uzoraka sli？noga kamena s Palagru？e, Brusnika, Jabuke i iz Komi？e s velikom sigurno？？u upu？uje na Palagru？u kao lokaciju odakle je valutak gabrodiorita donesen na Kor？ulu. Ovaj je podatak najstarija potvrda plovidbe Jadranom i ukazuje na to da je smjer Gargano – Palagru？a – Kor？ula bio va？an za nabavljanje sirovine, a vjerojatno i kao pravac ？irenja mezoliti？ke (i jo？ starije) populacije
